August 2003
Remove the steering rack from the car. Cleaned it up, re-greased and painted. Continued to build up the new chassis:
W. Bates called to tell me I needed a set of new valves and guides. Placed another order with QED Borrowed a slide hammer and removed the output shafts from the diff. Cleaned out the internal with Jizer. Nothing appears too worn or damaged, but there again I'm no expert. Replaced the output shaft bearings and seals. Decided that as I'd gone that far I may as well replace the pinion bearing as well.
Removed the pedal box for clean up and paint. The both master cylinders had seen better days. I'd already obtained a brake M/C from Classicar Automotive. On finding the clutch M/C completely seized I range them again from replacement master and slave. Took the radiator to Nottingham Rads. Had it re-cored with more modern type multicore. Core is now twice as deep as it was originally. Rad also weighs much more than it did. Removed the front and rear seats, the parcel shelf and the body to chassis bolts in preparation for lifting the body Lifted the body from the old chassis using a jack, axle stands and saw horses The body was somewhat precarious whilst swaying around in the breeze on the saw horses, so John, Eric, Peter, Richard and Nick came around to lower the body onto railway sleepers.
Remove the old sill & inserted the new ones. Found that a previous owner had made some fibreglass repairs to the inner right hand side of the car. Unfortunately laying new fibreglass over the top of the soundproofing felt. Liberally coated the new sill members with Waxoyl. Fastened up the inner mounting plates, but left the outer bolts until I can obtain some stainless ones.
